어렵지 않게 항해를 하곤 했지요
Atlantis는 도노반의 낭랑한 목소리가 돋보이는 노래이다. 곡의 절반은 아틀란티스에 관한 이야기를 은은한 반주를 배경으로 낭송하는 것이다.
그의 목소리는 대단히 맑고 시적인 느낌을 주면서 아틀란티스에 관한 상상을 불러일으킨다.
희미한 피아노 연주는 꿈꾸는 듯 흐르고, 아득한 과거로 회귀하게 된다.
곡의 전반부는 이렇듯 낭송으로 이루어져 있으며, 도노반이 떨리는 목소리로 감정을 담아'hail atlantis!'라고 하면서 '노래'가 시작된다.
진짜 노랫말은 단 한 줄, "Way down below the ocean where I wanna be she may be"라는 단순한 노랫말과 곡조가 계속 반복되는 가운데 왼쪽 채널을 통해 "I wanna see you some day"나 "My antediluvian baby, I love you, girl" 같은 백보컬이 계속 이어지며, 오른쪽 채널에서는 "She may, she may"가 계속 반복되면서 노래는 fade out의 형식으로 마무리된다.
도노반 자신의 계속되는 백보컬과 함께 기타와 피아노 연주와 적절한 드러밍은 지속적으로 반복되는 노랫말에 의해 지루해질 수 있는 이 노래를 잘 지탱하고 있다.
