King Crimson은 1969년 Robert Fripp과 Ian McDonald를중심으로 영국에서 결성되었으며, The Moody Blues와 같이 멜로트론을 활용함으로서 웅장한 분위기의 Symphonic Rock를 구사하고있다.
Epitaph 는 묘비에 죽은 자를 추모하여 새기는 글을 뜻하며 1969년 비틀즈의 정규 마지막 앨범 Abbey Road를 밀어내고 영국 앨범차트 1위를 차지한 핑크 플로이드와 함께 프로그레시브 록 음악의 양대산맥으로 출발한 그들의 대표곡이며 묵시론적 이미지로 가득 찬 노래로서 훗날 Emerson, Lake & Palmer를 결성하는 Greg Lake가 노래를 부르고 있다.
